This is my development and final cover design for the Penguin book cover brief. I read and researched “Animal Farm” by George Orwell; the cover itself made using fine line pens and ink for texture.
The concept is based around a chess metaphor, the fallen king piece symbolising how communism in Soviet Russia aimed to overthrow an established monarch, similarly to how the animals overthrow the farmer in the book. However, the cover mainly focuses on type, the title being spelled in barbed wire to show the corruption and cruelty that unfolds throughout the narrative.
